OPEN LETTER
Our organization has addressed to the appropriate authorities of the state government time and again as for the regular violations of the environmental legislation in Ukraine by some public and sport organizations/joint companies.. However, notwithstanding our protests, some of the public organizations are still planning fishing competitions conducting not concerted with the fishery protection authorities, which can result in a significant damage to the fishery resources in Ukraine - especially in the spawning prohibition period.
Under the aegis of All-Ukrainian Public Organization «Ukrainian Underwater Federation» on Kaniv water reservation on June21-24, 2009, on the area next to Khotsky Village (Khmelnitskiy region, Kiev oblast.), such kind of the competition in spear fishing “the Cup of the Deep magazine ” was planned . However, according to the conclusions of the specialists from the Institute of the Fishery Industry, just in the abovementioned place near Khotsky Village a great concentration of the catfish carpels is occurred now, which spawning hasn’t finished yet – in connection with unfavorable meteorological conditions which are occurred this year. Ichthyologists advised to pay a special attention of the fishery protection bodies to this water area of Kaniv water reservation just because of these reasons.
Chief State Administration of the protection, use and recreation of the water live resources and regulation of the fishing in Kiev and Kiev oblast in accordance with the conclusions of the scientists from the Institute of the Fishery Industry, has not allowed the organizers to conduct the abovementioned competitions. However, we have got an information that such competition could still take place, as far as Kiev State Fishery protection Authority is under the pressure with the purpose of allowance to conduct “the Cup of the Deep magazine ” .
We are voicing our vigorous protest against such actions and ask for your personal intrusion to avoid potential legal violation. We add all of the abovementioned documents (“Regulation on “the Cup of the Deep magazine” conducting to this letter, in particular letters from the Institute of the Fishery Industry and Kiev State Fishery Protection Authority), which we have already published in the Mass Media and on the fishing Internet forums. Taking catastrophic situation into the consideration as for the fishery resources decreasing in Ukraine, fishermen community gives a negative reaction to such cynic and barbarous competitions under the sport slogans unambiguously. We ask for your operative reaction to the abovementioned information!
